Visiting the SPS Fair in Nuremberg

Sharing impressions from my first visit to the Smart Production Solutions (SPS) fair in Nuremberg

The Smart Production Solutions (SPS) fair happens yearly in the month of November. It is a fairly small in comparison with other industrial fairs held in Germany, but it nevertheless quite interesting.

What makes it interesting is it’s focus. The fair is focused on automation solutions and that makes the visit for a visitor that is interested in this topic very efficient. There are less exhibitors, but the ones that exhibit are more relevant to someone interested in automation engineering. The site as a whole is much smaller too. I bet it would be possible to squeeze the whole SPS on just three or three halls at Hannover Messe. Therefore is much easier and faster to find information we are interested in. By consequence you spend substantially less time walking and much more time talking to exhibitors you are interested in.

Another good aspect of the exhibition grounds are also very nice conference rooms (catering included) which can be used by exhibitors for presentations. ePlan was, for example, presenting the latest development of their newest web and collaboration platforms. A topic on which I will write shortly.

Another nice thing I noticed is that there is a huge wardrobe just next to the main entrance. As the all of the halls are interconnected, you can leave Heavy jackets and other unnecessary stuff there. Very useful.

Unfortunately I did not have much time to further explore the premises of the Exhibition ground and to go to much into detail by the single exhibitors as I had only one day at my disposal and I already came with a full agenda just by ePlan. and Festo. By consequence this article will remain rather short. Nevertheless I rate my visit as very constructive as I managed to check all of the boxes on my checklist in a very limited time.

Last but not least, I should not forget to mention the beautiful town of Nuremberg, which is really worth visiting as you are already there. The historical center has a lot of preserved medieval buildings, an impressive city wall, beautiful cathedrals and good restaurants. As any medieval town is rather condensed, so it is possible to make a complete walk through in a relatively short time. It is good way to relax after an intensive day at the fair.

In conclusion I can rate my visit as a very nice experience. I will for sure return to the event in the following years.
