Building Automation (BA) plannning is a complex, interdisciplinary and exciting process. It is composed of a set of activities which are necessary to provide a complete automation plan for implemenetation of a BA system.
The complexity
Building Automation system planning is a process which requires interactions between experts and companies from different fields. It often requires integration with:
- On-site industrial and other processes/systems
- Internal and external information systems
- Security systems
- Other
By consequence the process of creating a Building Automation plan requires cooperation between experts from different fields like
- Mechanical engineers
- Engineers in electrical engineering
- Automation Engineers
- Software developers
- Security experts
- Others.
All of this makes the process very chalenging and exciting as there is always an opportunity to learn something new. Also there are no two equal projects. Each one is a challenge for itself and nothing must be taken for granted.
The input (Requirements)
Souch complexity involves also a need to process a multilayered set of input data which consists of of different sets of documents like Mechanicals P&IDs or PFDs, architectural or structural designs, draft designs, designs of existing installations, internal (clinets), national and international standards, different guidelines provided by the client and other.
The required data is usually provided by the client or the main contractor, and includes documents comming from several different sources/subcontractors.
It is very important that the data is concise and up-to-date. It is also important that the people involved in the creation of the input information are also available in case of eventual qestions and/or notes.
The process
Input data -> BA Planning -> Output data
The proces itself is in theory quite straight forward. You get the input data, you process it and than you hand over the output. Simple, isn’t it?
On real life projects is not really like that…. As projects last for longer periods of time which can vary from few weeks to few years, they can be subjected to several changes due to changes in businnes environment, technology, clients plans and priorities, etc… So revisions and changes are at the end the only constant in the process.
The output (End product)
The output of the process is a document or a series of documents which contain all the needed information by the end contractors for a successfull implementation of a Building Automation system.
The information would include:
