Impressions from Hannovermesse 2017

This year I visited Hannovermesse once again and this time I decided to share my experience with you.

As most of you, my fellow readers, probably know Hannovermesse is The Fair when we talk about industry and industrial automation. So a good place to visit once a while when you find yourself in these waters.

The fair is fairly big so it is good to have a plan before coming and possibly scheduled meetings with the most important exhibitors you might like to talk to. It is merely impossible to see it all in (even) few days, so it is good to keep it organised.

My plan was from the very beginning, and of course :-), to visit the ePlan booth. A little bit to chat and share experience with people I already know and mostly because I had a few questions related to challenges which are due to come in the next months. So some new interesting  topics for my blog.

Unfortunately I started to organize my meetings at the last moment. What happened is that I found out that the people I knew and I desired to see, were not available/present, and there was not enough time to arrange alternate meetings. So, I just went there hoping I will meet the right person to talk  to on spot.

Anyway and regardless the lack of organisation from my side I got lucky and met at the ePlan booth a really nice guy from ePlan Austria, who was kind and patient enough to answer to all of mine questions and showed me some new ePlan products which are worth considering.

It seems that I will get a coworker soon and therefore efficient organisation of the work had become an important challenge. By consequence the topic of conversation was concerned mostly about better macro organisation and usage. There was also same talking about licensing and data share. In general.. the advice was to use a virtual desktop from Citrix with ePlan on network licence. Although I am familiar with virtualization technologies, it will still be a new discovery.

The other advice was to start using ePlan Cogineer or ePlan EEC for achieving a higher degree of automation in project design (in poor words, to get more efficient :-).

Of course everything cost something and what I am most interested in is how to get the maximum for the invested buck. There will be a lot to evaluate in the next weeks, I already see it :-). The good thing is, as it seems, I will have a lot of new, very interesting, topics for my blog.

He also advised me to update ePlan to version 2.6.3, Hotfix 3 as there are some significant improvements for preplanning. So yes… Using Preplanning 2.6.3 and did not update yet? Do it now! 🙂

The next good meeting I held was at the Phoneix Contact‘s booth. Where I got an extensive lecture on the usage of Clip Project. The last was very welcome as I was just looking for a tool which could help me to be more effective when configuring the terminal strips.

The last nice surprise I got at the Rittal booth, where I presented my frustrations in configuring the bus bars. The answer I got was in form of this nice software: ” Power Engineering” which I am downloading right now, eager to try by myself.

So at the end of the day I must say that my visit to the fair was worth the time spent. I learned about a lot of new things which will come very handy sooner or later and made some new acquaintances which will come handy in future.

If you re interested in detail about any of my findings from Hannovermesse 2017,  please let me know in the comments below, if or when I will have  chance to give them a real try, I will be happy to share my experience with you.
